Awaba

Introducing Awaba – a major renovation paired with a full second-storey addition, designed by Jo Bastian of Bastian Architecture. We were brought on early to help retain as much of the existing home as possible, and much of the new structure was pre-fabricated off site in our own shed: floor, wall and roof frames built from detailed shop drawings and wrapped in a Pro Clima membrane before they arrived, so the first floor was watertight within weeks of going up.

The real joy is in the detail, much of it circling a theme of curves and arches – a funky pink-tiled bathroom, an arched skylight shared between two bathrooms, a curved steel door from Steela in a soft eucalypt green, and a striking concealed-lintel brick detail that leaves a floating brick skirt across the facade, with an arch-shaped pool still to come at the rear.
